Finding Togetherness During Separation: 3 Heartwarming Stories of Community Kindness During COVID-19
If you find yourself feeling a little weighed down by the constant negativity being broadcast in the news surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, you’re not alone. It’s easy to get caught up in the uncertainty and concern of a crisis causing so much worldwide disruption.
But while it’s important to stay informed with the latest updates and official advice on how to remain safe, it’s also important to take a break from the 24-hour news cycle and instead focus on some of the examples of positivity and strength happening around us. After all, a little good could do everyone a lot of good right now—and maybe even produce a smile or two.
The following are three heartwarming stories from our own Magnolia Green residents who are finding new ways to connect with one another, as well as serve those who may be in need of a little lift.
“No touch photo sessions”
One example comes from a resident who saw an opportunity to help maintain a strong sense of community closeness—in spite of social distancing separation—through her photography. She immediately put a plan into action by booking “no touch” family photo sessions (photosessions from at least six feet apart). But the service didn’t stop there. For payment, she simply asked that a donation be made via Venmo or Pay Pal to the Chesterfield Food Bank. After only a few weeks, she and the community have successfully raised $1,320.
“Mask Makers”
Another demonstration of winning community spirit and service comes from several residents who brought their craft skills—and sewing kits—together to make masks for local first responders, health workers and other local officials. While many put their talents to work sewing the masks, others joined in by donating supplies to the cause. So far, hundreds of masks have been made and distributed.
“Candy Crusade”
This time of season typically brings residents and families together for the renowned Magnolia Green egg hunt. But with this year’s event being cancelled for obvious reasons, residents swiftly came up with a new way to make the most of the situation, as well as the surplus of candy on their hands. After a bit of organization, baskets full of sugary treats were distributed to local heroes in need of a sweet pick-me-up.
Overall, If there is one thing that has become apparent through all of this, it’s that life doesn’t always go as planned. But no matter what obstacle gets put in our paths, there’s comfort in knowing we belong to a community full of caring people ready to rise to the challenge and lend a helping hand where needed.
Together we are stronger, and together we will succeed.
